'Schrödinger's Sister' by Jamie Walsh

After Erwin had left, she crept into his study to search for that box he was talking about. She couldn’t bear to let him put an innocent animal in danger, not even for science.
She only ever used skincare products that hadn’t been tested on animals. She ate Quorn burgers regularly. She always sneered whenever she passed eggs from caged hens in the supermarket, and made a point of going for the free-range.
When she found it, she whispered a quiet ‘don’t worry, little thing’ into the box and lifted the lid.
