'Why the Wind Laughs' by Luanne Castle

An enormous gust of air blew a crevasse in the parched earth, sending puffs of dust skyward before gravity pulled down the spark-sprinkled dust, spreading flickering threads of fire for miles. Soon another roar reared up near the horizon, and a stampede of frothing water gushed through the canyon. The dust and fire disappeared into the water, which reigned over the planet until the people drank and washed and irrigated it into nothingness. The wind started as a small breeze, then realized its importance, guffawing itself into a storm.
