'Eye' by Maria Sanger

The fiery eye glows on smooth pebbles, pupil pulsing red in gassy iris. Yellow air thickens with sand and the ancient one-eyed man with a scythe leans down from the heavens and pulls the smarting eye upwards, hurling it higher into the atmosphere. The wind gathers speed and lashes against the eye but the unblinking one focuses on destiny and gravitates toward the Terra 2 launch pad.

Unhindered, the watery eye will gestate for less than one million years until the time is ripe to replace the Earthlings.
