'The Test' by Julia Goodlet

“You’re late…” 

James stood, arms crossed in the doorway, the unmistakable look of annoyance on his face.

“I know, I’m sorry… I won’t be long, I just need to go to the loo.” 

Without waiting for a reply, she pushed past him and bolted into the toilet. 

Pulling out the pregnancy test, she followed the instructions and waited for the tell-tale sign. Nerves wracked at her, hope had been dashed too many times before but she felt different, more alive. 

The two lines appeared and she rushed out, laughing.  James looked at the little plastic stick, eyes wide. 

“You’re late…”
