The scouts had nearly drowned; washed away in a localised deluge of sparkling water
from above, but sticky and sweet smelling they had persevered and related the news.
The return with the promised supplies was even more treacherous; the air caught the crispy
golden discs pulling the bearers off course, away from the column. Localised hot spots had
burned the first few to pass, screams echoed down the column as legs lit by the sun set whole
bodies aflame. The relentless heat had harassed them along multiple detours until finally, the last of them tumbled back down into the earth and scuttled through the tunnels of home to
share the hard-won feast with their Queen.
