It’s amazing how much better I could smell after the doctor inserted stints into my sinuses.
Nose nirvana. I could smell things for the first time in my life.
Lavender in the backyard – scent strong enough to be a nerve agent.
A lily still unwrapping its green sepals – super sweet, milky.
The beach? Mindblowing!
The scent of the sea, the stench of kelp, loved it all.
Jumped right into the ocean.
“Careful!” My brother called out.
A creek emptied into the sea nearby, muddying the water.
Sharks hate it, can’t see where they’re going, biting at whatever gets in their way.
Oh no, there’s one now!
The shark opens its mouth, baring its shiny teeth.
Stalactites? Stalagmites? I wonder.
Then chomp!
My blood, smells like steel.
My femur, clattering around his molars.
Must taste like candy to him.
Must keep my head above water.
Must not imagine too far ahead.
Prompt #17 involved choosing five words from a FlashFlood story.
